Starting school
Children begin their school life in the Wrens. They come to school having completed the first year of the Foundation Stage (3-5 years) at their pre-school settings. During the final year of the Foundation Stage the curriculum continues to be divided into six areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; Mathematical Development; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Physical Development; and Creative Development.
Activities are organised around a class theme. Literacy and Numeracy receive considerable emphasis and the majority of teaching time in the mornings is devoted to these two areas.
Applying for a place
The arrangements for admission to the school at age 4+ are made by the County Council. A detailed description of the arrangement is contained in the booklet "Which Primary School For Your Child?" which can be obtained from:

Rules for allocating places
Under the admissions arrangements, parents are able to express a preference for any primary school. These preferences are followed in the allocation of places, providing that the school has enough places. If there are more applicants than places, then places are allocated to children in accordance with the following priorities:
1. Children who will have an elder brother or sister at the school in September 2007.
|
2.
|
Children living in the traditional area served by the school. This includes the village of Stonegate and part of the surrounding area. A map defining the area can be seen at the school.
|
3. Children living outside the traditional area with strong medical or other special reasons for attending the school.
4. Other children living outside the area.
If it is necessary to decide between children within any of the priority groups, then places will be allocated to those children living closest to the school. In all cases the application of the rules is performed by the County Admissions Officer, who is responsible for the allocation of places to individual children. There is an appeal procedure for parents
